Rachael Ehlen

Research Associate II

Rachael received her BS in Physiology and Neuroscience with a minor in Computer Science from the University of California - San Diego. She conducted undergraduate research in Dr. Peter Shaw’s Lab to investigate genetic and environmental factors in Age-Related Macular Degeneration, a leading cause of central vision loss worldwide. There, she received a TRELS research scholarship for her contribution to the team’s published review article “The interplay of oxidative stress and ARMS2-HTRA1 genetic risk in neovascular AMD.”

Most recently, Rachael worked as a clinical laboratory technician for LabCorp in their Covid-19 lab.  The Covid team there used rt-PCR to detect the presence of the novel coronavirus in patient samples, allowing for accurate patient care and virus tracking during the pandemic.

She is excited to work for a company that values the environment and is working towards a more sustainable future! In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and snowboarding as well as practicing the saxophone.
