Cynthia Phan

Research Associate II

Cynthia received her B.S. in General Biology with a minor in Global Health from University of California, San Diego. Her primary interests include the science of nutrition, health, and sustainability.

During her last year as an undergraduate student, she became the first R&D intern at BlueNalu. Her internship was focused on researching the composition and nutrition of key product species as well as commercially available feed sources and material components. She conducted literature reviews, generated databases, and helped to perform gap analysis for data related to Media Development. Additionally, she assisted Product Development with cell passaging and harvesting, setting up biocompatibility assays, and making media.

Before graduating, Cynthia also held many roles at the Triton Food Pantry, starting out as a volunteer and ending as an Assistant Student Manager. She is passionate about the importance of mindful nutrition and kickstarted an initiative to spread awareness about the pantry’s mission to help students facing food insecurity by providing a network of food resources that contribute to a balanced, nutritious diet. She is ecstatic to carry over her interest in nutrition to BlueNalu, where she will continue working in Product Development to help create healthy, humane seafood that doesn’t compromise the ocean’s biodiversity.
